Children start to become mathematicians as soon as they join our school. We take a dynamic approach to the teaching of mathematics, constantly looking to improve our practice, working with the Jurassic Maths Hub, linking with other schools and keeping up with the latest research.
At Pokesdown, we use the White Rose Maths Scheme as a basis to support our mastery approach to teaching and learning and to meet the aims and objectives of the National Curriculum.
We focus on the progression from concrete resources to pictorial representations and finally into the numerical abstract to aid our children's conceptual understanding. Our approach increases their growth of confidence, especially in the areas of problem solving and reasoning.
