Weekly briefing 29.4.24

Pokesdown Community Primary School – Weekly Briefing – 29th April

Dear Parents and Carers,

Week two of the summer is now at an end, and what a great week it has been. In assembly this week we celebrated St George’s Day – we listened to the story of St George killing the dragon – although Mr Biddle had another version where the Dragon decided to reform its ways and become vegetarian!

Years 4,5 and 6 were visited by the author, E.L Norry yesterday. She told them about her background and about how important it is for everybody to be able to see themselves in a book – that is such an important message, and one we foster in school. We still have some copies of her second book Fable House – Heart of Fire in school. If there are any children in Years 4, 5 and 6 would like one – please send £6.40 into school on Monday. You can also pay on ParentPay under donations. E.L Norry has said that she will come back in and sign any books that are bought between now and Monday.

This week also saw the start of our after school activity clubs – they have all been fantastic this week and the children have been really able to explore their interests with others after school each night. I need to say a huge thank you to all the staff who offer to run clubs after school – without this support we would not have as many clubs.

However, the highlight of this week has been the arrival of our Chinese students and their teachers from Southbourne School of English – they have quickly become part of our community and we are all loving having them with us. They will be with us next week – then they will come back in June. We hope they are enjoying being with us as much as we enjoy having them here.

Have a fantastic weekend.
