Pokesdown Community Primary School – Weekly Briefing – 17th June 2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
Wow….what a week we have had – this week will certainly go down as one of the most exciting in the history of Pokesdown Community Primary School. Watching the film crew at work was amazing – we hadn’t realised how much filming goes into a small segment of a larger programme.
We are so very proud of Chef Russ and his award. We are also very proud of Chef Matt, Kelly and Dani who all work really hard to make sure the children eat wonderful nutritious lunches every day. Also, a big thank you goes to you and your children for being so supportive of our philosophy towards food and food education for life.
There have also been other exciting things going on this week – on Monday Year 6 enjoyed sessions with AFC Bournemouth on healthy lifestyles – they also enjoyed a session with Hugh (Dr Bike It) who showed them how to repair punctures and plan safe routes to school. Our Year 3 children spent Tuesday at Hengistbury Head learning all about the Stone Age. On Thursday – Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a day of theatre workshops with Big Little Theatre Group. We heard the brilliant news that we had gained some funding for Forest Schools from The Steve Bernard Foundation. Year 1 have worked so hard during their Phonics Checks, whilst Year 4 have been using their mathematical skills for their Multiplication Times Tables Check. The week ended with Year 5 going on a trip to Paultons Park – it’s certainly been a busy but fantastic week in school.
Next week is not so busy – but it will still be a great week full of exciting learning and events. Don’t forget Sports Day is on Thursday at King’s Park Athletics Stadium –the letter and programme full of information have been sent to you earlier today. Please make sure that you complete the form regarding pick up arrangements. details. We are also welcoming back our Chinese children from Southbourne School of English on Monday. They will be with us for the next two weeks.
On Friday our magnificent Year 4,5,6 choir will be performing at the Choir competition at Christchurch Priory – they sound amazing in the Hall – we can’t wait to hear what they will sound like at the Priory. All choir members will need to wear school uniform that day so that we can show off our Pokesdown Shield on our jumpers with pride.
The week beginning 24th June will see M&M Theatre Group perform Oliver Twist to the whole school – they come in each year and their performances are always great. Please check Parent Pay for how to contribute towards the cost of the performance. On 27th June we will be holding our very first Silent Disco and pizza event for the children. We are finalising the details and will let you know them next week.
Some of you will be aware of the Clingans Trust – they are a local charity who can help with support towards school uniform and school trips. If you think you could eligible for a grant please check their website out for further details on how to apply. The closing date for the next round of grants closes on Tuesday.
