Pokesdown Community Primary School – Weekly Briefing – 6th May
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another great week in school. On Monday, the Mayor of Bournemouth, Mrs Filer visited school. She wore all of her official regalia and told the children about her role. Geoff, the Mayor’s Escort also came and told the children about the history of the mace. We are all really pleased that we now have a lovely golden one – as opposed to the wooded one with nails in! The children listened really well and asked lots of interesting questions. We are really grateful that the Mayor was able to come and visit our school again.
On Tuesday, Dr Bike It came in to check over our bikes – Hugh (Dr Bike It) was really impressed with the amount of bikes that were bought into school – it took him the entire school day to check them over. Dr Bike It is such a great initiative to ensure that we are all riding bikes that are roadworthy.
In assembly this week Mr Biddle told us about the history of the May Day holiday – did you know that it has only been holiday since 1971. We also learnt about the elections for the Police Commissioner. It was great listening to the children about their political views and what they know about the main parties.
This week, Class 3C were visited by two artists called Noisy Noise – they have created a bar installation that creates different sounds when different aspects of the bar are touched. This installation has been to many of the festivals held last summer and we were very lucky to have them in school. They needed the help of the children to create another installation. The children learnt about how the installation worked and were able to use circuits to create sounds. We are hoping that they might be able to bring the completed installation to the Christmas Fair. They won’t be able to come to the Summer Fair as they will be busy visiting festivals.
Thank you for sending the children to school in their school uniform today – they all looked really smart in their class photos. Mufti Day is back next Friday!
Please don’t forget that school is closed on Monday due to the May Day holiday. We hope you enjoy the three day weekend.
Have a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend.
