Internet Safety Workshop - 7.5.24

Internet Safety Workshop Invitation

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am pleased to invite all of our families to an Internet Safety Workshop on Tuesday 7th May between 3.30 and 5.30pm. This will be a ‘drop-in’ session, with lots of incredibly important and insightful information about:

• How children are taught about internet safety at school

• Top tips on how this can be encouraged and achieved in the home

• Information sharing about both the benefits and dangers that popular apps and the digital world present children with, including top tips to be aware of for games, apps, devices and websites children are currently using

• Our knowledge and perspectives on the most effective ways to keep children safe online

• An opportunity to ask any questions about online safety to members of school staff, other parents and a member of Dorset Police Safer Schools Team for the first hour (3.30 – 4.30pm).

• How to report concerns about communications and contact online

• How to create a ‘digital family safety plan’ and time to have a go at making one!

The workshop will very much fit within our ethos of keeping children safe online at Pokesdown. As a school our approach is all about encouraging children to keep talking, talking and talking about how they are using the internet and what they have experienced – good and bad – and that they should feel comfortable to talk to a trusted adult about any concerns they have.

We try to keep families informed about tools such as age-ratings, but we also believe that the most effective way to keep children safe online is to know how they are using the internet through lots of talking, careful supervision and parents making informed decisions on what their children can and cannot use.

The workshop is appropriate for all of our families from Reception to Year 6. Children can come along with you if needed, but the information that will be shared is intended for adults. As a ‘drop?in’ event, please feel free to join us any time from 3.30 – 5.30pm.

If you intend on joining us, please use the link below to let us know to help us to organise the event by clicking the following link into your browser. https://forms.office.com/e/TfhXmFpzB9
